‘Trace and Claim’ in Spain to reduce methane emissions from LNG imports

Share document

Spain, which is structurally dependent on imports as it is not a hydrocarbon-producing country, faces the challenge of ensuring that its supply is not only secure in terms of volume, but also climate-neutral in terms of associated leaks. This regulatory requirement clashes head-on with the vulnerability of an import mix that, historically, has prioritised geographical origin, geopolitical relations and market prices over transparency regarding methane emissions.
