The ceremony pays tribute to the founding trustee of Fundación Renovables and the first Executive Director of the European Environment Agency.
Cartagena, 9 April 2026.- Fundación Renovables and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) presented the Domingo Jiménez Beltrán Awards this Thursday. This is the second edition of the award, which commemorates the figure of the former first Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, as well as co-founder and President of Fundación Renovables between 2014 and 2017.
The first prize, worth 2,000 euros, was presented by the Rector of UPCT, Mathieu Kessler Neyer, to student Carolina Belén González for her project ‘Technical and economic optimisation of the integration of storage systems in photovoltaic installations for industrial self-consumption’. The work was supervised by Professor Ana María Nieto Morete.
The second prize, worth 1,000 euros and presented by the President of Fundación Renovables, Fernando Ferrando, was awarded to student Jhonny Ismael Ramos Gómez for the project ‘Modelling and simulation of electrical systems for distributed integration: the Honduran electricity system as a case study’, supervised by Professors Ángel Molina García and Jonathan Muñoz Tábora.
The award recognises the figure of Jiménez Beltrán, who had a profound impact on the defence of the environment and sustainable development in Spain. Through this event, the aim is not only to remember him and keep his legacy alive, but also to encourage new generations to follow his example through research and the search for innovative solutions that help decarbonise the energy sector.
Relatives of Domingo Jiménez Beltrán attended the ceremony and expressed their gratitude for the award initiative and for the recognition shown by Fundación Renovables and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.
Domingo Jiménez Beltrán, an engineer and tireless environmental advocate, devoted his life to sustainable, fair and connected development.
