José Luis García Ortega *

Graduate in Physical Sciences, specialising in Astrophysics, from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1989. In 1990 he worked on the launch of the Solar Furnace Project at CIEMAT’s Plataforma Solar de Almería.

Since 1991 he has worked at Greenpeace Spain, where he began in the Energy area as head of the Atmosphere and Energy, Ozone, Climate Change and Energy, and Clean Energy campaigns. In 2003 he became head of Clean Energy Projects. In 2011 he took on the launch and coordination of the Research and Advocacy area, and in 2012 the coordination of the Climate Change and Energy area. Since 2017 he has been responsible for the Climate Change Programme, currently the Climate, Energy and Mobility area.

Within Greenpeace he has launched and led the Greenpeace Solar, Solar Schools Network, Choose Clean Energy, Energy Revolution and Climate 2015 projects.

He acts as Greenpeace spokesperson to the media and represents the organisation before public administrations and other public and private bodies.

He has directed courses and conferences organised by Greenpeace on renewable energy, has participated as a speaker in more than one hundred conferences, courses, master’s programmes, parliamentary hearings, congresses, debates, seminars and workshops on these subjects, and has written and coordinated the publication of hundreds of reports, studies, articles, books, papers, briefing sheets and Greenpeace campaign materials in these areas, especially on renewable energy. Particularly notable is his coordination of the studies Renewables 2050, 100% Renewables and Energy 3.0.

He has been a member of the Greenpeace delegation at Conferences of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Kyoto, 1997; Marrakech, 2001; Madrid, 2019), as well as at the IPCC (Madrid, 1995; Valencia, 2007).

He has been a member of the Electricity Advisory Council of the National Commission on Markets and Competition since its creation in 1996, as well as of the National Climate Council and its Standing Committee. He is a member of the advisory board of the magazine Energías Renovables. He is a founding trustee of Fundación Renovables and a member of its Executive Committee.
