Madrid, 7 April 2026.- Fundación Renovables has launched the campaign ‘The easiest decisions in history’, an initiative designed to show how electrification can be a way to withstand economic crises caused by fossil fuels.
The campaign, created with the support of the Svalbard agency of 21 Gramos, presents two key moments in history, situations in which the protagonists had to make risky decisions to save the lives of hundreds of people, and contrasts them with everyday debates.
Leaving behind a petrol car and finally buying an electric vehicle? Installing a heat pump to reduce energy bills? These are easy decisions compared with the doubts that, for example, pilot Chesley Sullenberger may have had before making an emergency landing of a passenger aircraft in the middle of the Hudson River. The decision faced by Soviet Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Petrov to prevent World War III was also a difficult one.
Through a series of short videos with a sarcastic tone, Fundación Renovables aims to underline the importance of moving forward with our energy transition in order to fight the climate crisis while also gaining independence from an increasingly volatile and hostile fossil-based economy.
The current energy crisis, caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a result of the war between Iran, the United States and Israel, shows that both Spain and Europe must make a firm commitment to renewables and electrification, including electric vehicles and heat pumps. Only in this way will it be possible to protect the economy and households from authoritarian regimes linked to oil and gas.
This is not the first major energy price crisis Europe has faced, but it is the first time we have had the tools to overcome it, gain sovereignty and make progress in the fight against the climate emergency. Never before in history have we had to make such an easy decision.
